Ink Exposed (Montgomery Ink #6) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Ink Exposed by Carrie Ann Ryan

Release: November 29th, 2016
Romance Subgenre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Montgomery Ink #6

The Montgomery Ink series continues with the brother that deserves a second chance, and the woman who has always loved him.

Alex Montgomery lost his first love and then proceeded to leave himself in the bottle. Only he and his ex-wife truly know why he fell so hard and so fast down a path he never thought he’d take. Now he’s clean, out of rehab, and learning how to be a Montgomery once again—a task that isn’t quite as easy as some of his family assumes.

Tabby Collins is an honorary Montgomery and the organizational mastermind behind Montgomery Inc., the family’s construction company. She loves her planners, friends, and a certain dark-haired man who’s never given her a second glance.

Alex is slowly re-immersing himself back into the world, but the demons he faced before aren’t out of the picture, and he’ll have to learn to rely on others to make it out whole. When Alex discovers that Tabby’s life is in danger, he not only finds a way to help her but also learns the true woman behind the soft smiles he’s always seen. Their romance won’t be an easy one, but nothing this passionate and heart-pounding ever is.

Theme Song
Alex and Tabby’s story is finally here!

For those of us immersed in the Montgomery Ink world created by Carrie Ann Ryan Alex’s journey has presented some problems. His demons have clearly been plentiful but he’s been presented in such a way that it’s hard not to root for him. Alex has the backing of his family though and by the end of Ink Enduring it looked like Alex had conquered his addiction and was cautiously diving back into the real world.

Tabby has worked for Storm and Wes for quite some time and she’s been worming her way into my heart since she first stepped on the page. She’s loyal to the Montgomerys but she doesn’t seem like a pushover. She’s almost cautiously enamored with the crew (and I love that about her).

So, in the timeline of the Montgomery Ink world, it’s been a year since Ink Enduring ended. Alex is back on track and he’s finally beginning to trust himself again. He doesn’t feel worthy of his family’s love and devotion, but he’s getting there. But when Tabby and Alex finally face up to the feelings that have been growing for quite some time things seem to shift all over again. She’s the addiction he doesn’t know if he’ll recover from. Tabby, on the other hand, has loved Alex for a lot longer than she should. She knows him and she knows he’s worthy of her love and her trust. And sheesh, when Alex finally proves to himself that he is gonna protect Tabby he does it ALL THE WAY.

This book did seem a bit more complicated than the previous Montgomery Ink books in terms of the baggage that Alex and Tabby brought to the page. Perhaps that’s since we’ve watched both these characters grow and change and develop over the course of a few books. Before Alex and Tabby even took a good long look at one another we, the readers, know that this could end really really poorly for the entire Montgomery crew. Luckily it doesn’t and the romance between Tabby and Alex is spectacular.

Also…
Tabby’s brothers...swoon
Storm...OMG
Everly...OMG
Jillian...OMG

Side Note: I’m very, very, very nervous about Storm’s book y’all. However, Carrie Ann Ryan has said there will be NO cheating and that Storm and his lady’s journey will be hard. I’m hoping it proves worth it in the end since I have a pit in my stomach when I think about it. I almost put Ink Exposed down and DNF’d it since I began to think ahead and worry about Storm but I’m trusting in Ryan to make it all better. IT BETTER BE OK in the end!

So, the song I choose for Alex and Tabby may seem cliché. It seems like an easy choice since Alex is a photographer. However, this song wasn't really an easy choice since I specifically wanted to avoid cliché for Alex and Tabby it at all costs (they deserve more, ya know!?!). After searching high and low for the perfect lyrics for Alex and Tabby though I just couldn't compare any song to "Photograph" by Ed Sheeran. The lyrics are so haunting and so perfect for Alex and Tabby's mutual brokenness that, alas, this is the one for them.

“Photograph" by Ed Sheeran

Loving can heal, loving can mend your soul
And it's the only thing that I know, know
I swear it will get easier,
Remember that with every piece of you
Hm, and it's the only thing we take with us when we die

What did you think of Ink Exposed?
Are there any songs that remind you of Alex, Tabby and their HEA?

About Carrie Ann Ryan
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.

Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.

I'm excited to have author Kerry Adrienne on the blog today to discuss her new book, Pursuing the Bear. Thanks for sharing, Kerry!

First off, I want to say up front that I love music. I almost always have something playing on my office sound system or through headphones or blasting in my convertible. Music is a huge part of my life and my creative process. I would be very sad if I couldn’t listen to it while writing.

The music doesn’t always fit the book. I play music that fits my mood or energizes me. I love bands like Marilyn Manson, Green Day, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Halestorm, The Beatles, and musical theater (current favorite there is Hamilton).

For Pursuing the Bear, Marilyn Manson was touring his latest album, The Pale Emperor. In the year leading up to and including writing the book, I saw eleven Marilyn Manson concerts. I traveled everywhere—sometimes flying, sometimes driving eleven hours to see the show. From small clubs to outdoor arenas, I went to as many as I could. So, it should come as no surprise that I was listening to Manson for most of the time I was writing this book.

I have thirty-six Manson playlists on my iTunes account. I have ones for the car, concept albums, favorite favorites, etc.

The playlist I listened to the most often is called: Marilyn Manson Driving Two. It contains old songs and new, mostly high tempo, and all loud. There are thirty-nine songs on the playlist, but I will list the first fifteen:

1. The Beautiful People
2. Tourniquet
3. Angel with the Scabbed Wings
4. The Reflecting God
5. Hey, Cruel World
6. No Reflection
7. If I was your Vampire
8. The Fight Song
9. Disposable Teens
10. Target Audience (Narcissus Narcosis)
11. The Nobodies
12. Mechanical Animals
13. Rock is Dead
14. Doll-Dagga-Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag
15. (s)AINT

Thanks for having me here to talk music. It’s one of my favorite things in the world and there’s nothing like a live concert. I had a meet and greet with Marilyn Manson this summer and we talked about writing erotic horror. He’s a very brilliant wordsmith and I’d love to see the playlist he listens to when he writes!

I'm excited to have author Melody Heck Gatto on the blog today to discuss her book, Shutout. Thanks for sharing, Melody!

I love making the game part of the overall story (I love the whole experience of being at a NHL game, the noise, the food, the sound of the skates on the ice.) My hope is even if you’ve never set foot into a hockey rink, you will feel as if you had while reading my books.

I write for the fan-girl in me. Most of my female characters have a favorite player or a crush on a particular player. They never thought they would have a chance much less an opportunity to catch the eye of said hockey player. Fan-girls typically dream of that player noticing them – well in my Renegades Series that is exactly what happens. There is some angst or drama, but it’ll only make you want a happily ever after for the couple even more. I like to say that my books are “fan-girl” approved.

Some of my characters have been influenced by hockey players from around the NHL. Others are completely fictional and mimic no one in particular. Each Renegades book is about one of the guys on the team, so you’re not following the same couple around in all the books. They do pop up again though, and we get to see them grow and progress in their relationships, with the team and life.

About Melody Heck Gatto
Melody was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she lives with her husband, and son. She’s a dog lover and recently losing her two 15yr old girls (dogs) they adopted a new puppy, in addition to a cat. After years of begging for a cat, she finally let her son adopt a kitten (even though she’s allergic!) The cat is definitely a “mama’s boy”. A house just isn’t a home without pets.

The whole family are avid Pittsburgh Penguins fans and like going to hockey games when they get the chance. Having met some of the players has fueled her interest in writing about them and creating wonderful stories.

Melody has loved writing since she was young, in school she never met a creative writing assignment that she didn't love. She is lucky enough to have a wonderful husband who encourages her to write. When she was laid off from her job of 14 years, he was supportive about letting her stay home and just be a mom. During that time, she discovered hockey-romances and found a renewed love of reading as well as a passion for writing.

She spends her spare time reading hockey romances. At holiday time she really enjoys any romance about Christmas, and Hallmark movies on tv. When it is the hockey off-season, she enjoys swimming and spending her days out in the sun with her family.

Basically if she’s not writing or reading, then she’s doing something that has to do with hockey!

Excerpt from The Hero
The days of Natalie going back to her house to have a glass of wine and watch episodes of Criminal Minds or Doctor Who were long gone. Ever since the day she saw Ragnarok in that report and called the number Orrin had given her, her life had changed.

That’s when she and Callie had begun talking several times a day.

The sound of another chopper flying low overhead caused her to glance up. It looked like another military helicopter, which immediately made her think of Owen. Again.

She sighed. After all the wasted years, she thought he’d be gone from her thoughts. It seemed she was forever wrong when it came to him.

“There’s another one. I’m betting it’s them,” Callie said.

“Think there’s any way I can look around without them knowing?”

“You mean without Owen knowing? Doubt it.”

She knew Callie was right, but that didn’t mean Natalie had to like it.

“How’s work?” Callie asked.

Because she worked for the Russian Embassy, and she wasn’t sure if they listened to her conversations, she and Callie never spoke of her work. The fact that Callie brought it up meant there was a reason.

“Busy. I had a hard time getting away.”

“Time isn’t on our side.”

Of that, she was clearly aware. “How long do you think we have?”

“I don’t know. Everything hinges on finding it.”

It being Ragnarok—a bioweapon.

How different her life would be if Orrin hadn’t contacted her in July. She wouldn’t be embroiled in kidnapping, espionage, and murder.

And yet . . . it felt as if this were the exact place she needed to be.

Then again, that could be her heart trying to convince her this all led back to Owen. As far as she was concerned, men were pigs. She’d had enough of the lies, the cheating, and the bullshit that always went with dating.

She was happy living the single life, not having to clean up after anyone, share her closet, compromise on where to eat or if she got to watch her favorite shows. There was no one taking her covers, snoring, or—

“Natalie?”

“Sorry,” she told Callie. “I was thinking.”

“About Owen?”

“About all of it. The shit is about to hit the fan as soon as the boys learn what’s going on.”

Callie snorted loudly. “Then let it. Where have they been these last ten years? Have they even bothered to send a fucking text? No. They have no idea how badly that hurt Orrin.”

“I doubt they think about it.” She should know. In the year she’d been with Owen, there were two things never discussed—his mother’s murder, and his feelings about his dad.

“Which just pisses me off,” Callie said tightly. “If I had a dad like Orrin, I’d never be far.”

“I know.” Callie was another who didn’t discuss her family. And with a family as infamous around Hillsboro as the Reeds, it was no wonder.

The Reeds were drunks and criminals of the worst sort. It had been Orrin who helped Callie escape all of that. And why she thought of Orrin as a father.

“We have to find him,” Callie said.

Natalie slowed the car and put on her blinker as she prepared to pull onto the Loughman Ranch. “We will, Callie. We will.”

“Even if we have to do it on our own. If the jackasses Orrin calls sons won’t help, then I’ll make sure they’re not around to interfere.”

That made Natalie smile. If anyone could do that, it was Callie. What she lacked in height, Callie made up for in intelligence and talking rings around people. Few could keep up with her.

“I just turned into the ranch.” She felt a flutter in her stomach.

Excitement or dread? She wasn’t sure she knew.
