Review
Some books just seem to consume your thoughts from the moment the characters step on the page. For 100 Days was totally like that for me. My desire to figure out who Nick and Avery were and who they are going to be together was all consuming (still is all consuming honestly). However, for most of my time reading this book I had a pit in the middle of my stomach. Nick and Avery's individual secrets and the dark and murky places of their past made me fear the end of this book. I wasn't sure how or if their HEA would satisfy. Be forewarned people, this book has a cliffhanger ending! When all was said and done though, I loved this book. I didn't love it because it was a quick read, or because it made me believe in HEAs or because I adored the character's story like most of my other five-star reviews. I loved it because, like most of Lara Adrian's works, For 100 Days took me to often unexplored places in relationships. The book delved into secrets and past trauma, into honesty and what I means to trust someone. Adrian's story-telling is so strong that I feel like I know Avery intimately and I am itching for the next part of the 100 Series saga so I can learn more about Nick.
The Good
- Like I kinda mentioned in my intro, this book took me to a different place than I was expecting. It challenged my thoughts on trust and really opening up to someone. I needed some personal reflection time after reading this book. For 100 Days zapped my desire to read anything else for a few days and in that time I reread certain parts of the book two, three, even four times. Now, Lara Adrian's books have almost all challenged me in some way so I was expecting that. I see challenging books as a really good thing; I'm not a fan of reading "easy reads" all the time. Variety is the spice of life!
- This books really focused on Avery and I liked that our heroine got so much time on the page. Sure I'm itching for more Nick, but the actual dedicated-space for us to meet Avery in such an extensive way was cool.
- I would like to me whisked away on vacation. Yep, I so need a billionaire to jet me off to his Miami condo for a bit.
The Bad
- I'm not a cliffhanger gal. Even though I'm giving this book 5 stars, I'd much prefer it if Nick and Avery's HEA was wrapped up into one nice package of a book. I might be able to contain myself and wait to read the next installment until the final book comes out, but I don't hold out hope since I like Adrian's writing so much.
- One of my least favorite things in romance is when a hero somehow knows more about a women's body and what she likes in bed more than she does. I get that people explore and I get that Nick could teach Avery (or any woman) a few things. However, Avery seemed self-assured enough and comfortable enough in her own sexuality (example a: the back room of her workplace) that I felt like it was strange up front that she didn't seem to know if a tilt towards a dominate/submissive relationship is something she could handle or enjoy. Avery certainly seemed sexually satisfied in the book, but I hope we see how Nick and Avery's sexual relationship develops as they continue to expose their secrets and explore their desires in the bedroom.
The Unique
- Lara Adrian's writes complicated storylines. Her Midnight Breed series is one of my favorites, but delving into the series and wading through the side- and back-stories takes some serious dedication. For 100 Days wasn't any different. I adored getting the complicated storylines in a contemporary romance. The fact that this book also was an erotic romance made the complicated storyline thing even more unique!
