The Harder He Falls by Lynda Aicher

Release: June 7, 2016
Romance Subgenre: Contemporary Romance, M/M Romance
Series: Kick #1

RITA Award finalist Lynda Aicher fires up a thrilling series featuring rugged men who play hard for a living. When it comes to one another’s hearts, they never back down—because behind closed doors, the games they play are very different.

Expert whitewater-rafting guide Grady Kelley lives for that rush of adrenaline: at work, as the newest employee of a Portland-based outdoor-adventure sports company, and off the river, where liaisons with anonymous men keep him satisfied. Grady prefers no drama and no strings attached, but when tragedy strikes, fate leads him to Micah Swaine. He’s hot, masculine, distracting—and offers the kind of deeper connection Grady has sworn off, no matter how badly he craves it.

Working at a leather bar, Micah meets a lot of guys, but Grady’s different—and he seems to feel the same way. The trouble is, anything beyond casual sex is too risky for Micah. He’s got secrets he doesn’t know how to share, secrets that would make any relationship a battlefield. No man, even one as compassionate as Grady, would stick around for that kind of trouble. And yet, as physical desire melts the walls they’ve put up, Micah and Grady discover that trusting each other is the most exhilarating adventure of all.

Character Study Playlist
Ok y'all...what just happened in this book!?! I'm still processing it all really. Grady and Micah's story was incredibly powerful, and complicated, and layered. Both Micah and Grady are dealing with some emotional and physical issues that have prevented their individual selves from getting involved with someone in the past. However, they can't seem to stay away from each other (and I kinda didn't want them too since the heat in their sex scenes was insane). In so many ways both men seemed "broken", but together they completed each other and found a safe haven. HIGHLY recommended for M/M romance readers and fans of diverse romance!

Individual Songs and Fitting Lyrics

I choose songs for playlists based on lyrics, musical genre and musical style. Below are the individual songs chosen for The Harder He Falls and the lyrics that led me to add the song to the list.

“No One Knows” by Queens of the Stone Age

And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I
And I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool I
Ah

“Roll Up” by Fitz and the Tantrums
Sugar just step into your sneakers
And step behind the speakers
Your heart will keep me beating
And make me a believer
Don't you want me?
Don't you want me?
I need some mercy in my soul, come on
Give me what you got, oh oh oh
Give me what you got, oh oh oh

“It's Been Awhile” by Staind
And it's been awhile
Since I can say I love myself as well
And it's been awhile
Since I've gone and fucked things up just like I always do
And it's been awhile
But all that shit seems to disappear when I'm with you

“Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down
You called me strong, you called me weak,
But still your secrets I will keep
You took for granted all the times
I never let you down
You stumbled in and bumped your head,
If not for me then you'd be dead
I picked you up and put you back on solid ground

“Sugar” by Maroon 5
Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me
I'm right here, 'cause I need
Little love and little sympathy
Yeah you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life
Your sugar (your sugar)
Yes, please (yes, please)
Won't you come and put it down on me

  1. This is so fun! I actually do have a play list for each book I write and it's cool to see what songs you thought would fit. My actual playlist was really short for this book with only four songs all from Tenth Avenue North. It was kind of an odd choice for this story given they're a faith-based band, but the songs fit. Thanks for reading!
